Rishabh Pant has been given the command of Delhi Capitals for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). IPL 2021 is starting from April 9. Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Kiran Kumar Gandhi on Tuesday announced the appointment of Rishabh Pant as captain after Shreyer Iyer was ruled out of IPL 14 due to injury. Pant has got the chance to captain the Delhi Capitals at the age of 23. After becoming the captain of Delhi Capitals, Pant said that I started my IPL journey from Delhi six years ago. I had a dream to captain this team, I am thankful to my team owners who deemed me worthy of this role. There are so many good and big people around me that I am not waiting to give my best for my team.
The exit of Shreyas Iyer is a big setback for Delhi Capitals. The team reached the final last time under his captaincy. Iyer had injured his left shoulder during fielding in the first match of the three-match ODI series played with England recently. Iyer will have to undergo surgery for his shoulder, due to which he will not be able to return to the cricket field for 4-5 months. He scored his best in the third match. Pant scored 77 in the second match and 78 in the third match. Iyer captained the Delhi Capitals to the final of the IPL played last year.
